11th Lustrum of SRC Thor

SRC Thor became 55 years old on the 5th of November and the celebration in honor of the 11th lustrum started on the 10th of November!

To celebrate Thor being 55 years old, the gents played a much anticipated match against the Old-Engineers. It was a little worrying that a large proportion of the players were hungover, one guy was in the hospital just hours prior, and another was still sleeping. To make matters worse, this was a game we couldn’t lose, otherwise we would be paying for post-match beer.

The game started incredibly physical, with big tackles, messy rucks, and questionable scrumming tactics. But despite the lack of experience, we managed to run through a few early tries, mainly stemming from our speedsters Conny and Pim. The students made sure the Old-Engineers would score a few tries, just to make them feel better about themselves, which resulted in a 31-22 win to the real Thor.

MareVisie zoekt nieuwe collega’s

Expert Writers

MareVisie is bezig om een platform op te zetten voor expert writers. Als expert writer ga jij een ¾ tot 1-jarig traject in om een expert te worden in een onderwerp. Dit onderwerp kan bijvoorbeeld iets zijn waar jij nieuwsgierig naar bent of affiniteit mee hebt. Dus heb je je altijd al eens willen verdiepen in de IT-architectuur van grote organisaties of heb je altijd al eens willen uitzoeken hoe die energietransitie nou echt van de baan moet komen, meld je aan! Hiermee werk je niet alleen aan de groeiende kennis van MareVisie, maar ook aan je eigen digitale footprint. Voor meer informatie zie de vacature.

PMO-er/ Junior Projectleiders

Interesse in projectmanagement binnen de vakgebieden techniek en/of IT? MareVisie wil het team uitbreiden is daarom opzoek naar een junior projectleider of PMO-er. Als junior projectleider wordt je opgeleid op een van de projecten bij een klant van MareVisie. Hier krijg je met alle onderdelen van projectmanagent te maken. Daarnaast is MareVisie op zoek naar een vervanger van Jeroen van Nieuwenhuizen als content manager van MareVisie. Als content manager hou je de website bij, plaats je stukjes, interview je mensen en genereer je zelf content. Daarnaast ben je ook iemand die met 1 been binnen Thor staat en met 1 been binnen MareVisie. Het is betaald werk voor ca. 4 tot 8 uur per week en een mooie manier om tijdens je studententijd relevante werk ervaring op te doen. Studenten van SRC Thor samen met groep 8 van de Gabriëlschool in actie tegen vandalisme

Vandalen die het ‘Blauwe Huisje’ in het Hof van Delft park bekladden en troep achterlaten, is geen nieuws voor de leerlingen van groep 8 van de Gabriëlschool in de Harnaschpolder. Het was zelfs zo erg, dat de kinderen niet meer in de buurt van het Blauwe Huisje wilden spelen. Samen met SRC Thor en Stichting Move is groep 8 gestart met een project om hun buurt een stukje beter te maken.

Stichting Move koppelt scholen in aandacht wijken aan studenten, met als doel de kinderen hun talenten te laten ontplooien. In februari hebben de studenten de kinderen voor het eerst ontmoet en vanaf dat moment zijn ze aan de slag gegaan. Eerst hebben ze allerlei ideeën bedacht om het Blauwe Huisje op te knappen. De kinderen hebben ook een uitstapje gemaakt naar de TU Delft waar ze de campus en het clubhuis, de boot van SRC Thor, hebben gezien. Ook hebben ze aan een rugby workshop deelgenomen, waarbij ze erg fanatiek waren. Twee meiden vonden het zelfs zo leuk, dat ze gelijk lid zijn geworden van een rugbyvereniging! Dit uitstapje heeft de kinderen meer inzicht gegeven in hun mogelijkheden wat sporten betreft, maar ook in het studeren. Door kinderen in contact te brengen met studenten en door ze samen een project te laten doen, groeit het zelfvertrouwen enorm.

Het Blauwe Huisje is van top tot teen schoongemaakt en een graffiti artist genaamd ‘Booniem’ heeft een kunstwerk op het huisje gemaakt. Tijdens het bespuiten van het huisje kwamen er hangjongeren langs die erg onder de indruk waren. Ook zij waren er blij mee! Missie vervuld.  Het resultaat was super, het zag er onwijs mooi uit, met de nadruk op ‘zag’. Twee dagen na afronding van de opknapbeurt van het hokje was het alweer beklad. Gelukkig ziet het huisje er alsnog een stuk mooier uit dan voorheen en hebben de kinderen en studenten een leuk project uitgevoerd. Ook hebben de kinderen een les geleerd, namelijk dat vandalisme erg vervelend kan zijn voor iedereen die hard heeft gewerkt om iets te verwezenlijken. De wijkagent zal het huisje meenemen in zijn loop routine, hopelijk zal dat de hangjongeren afschrikken en kunnen de kinderen zorgeloos bij het Blauwe Huisje spelen.

Op vrijdag 22 juni heeft de Gabriëlschool samen met Studentenrugbyvereniging SRC Thor en Stichting Move het resultaat van hun project aan de buurt en aan de andere klassen laten zien.  De vraag: “Wat vonden jullie het leukst aan het project?” werd door een meisje beantwoord met: “Ik vond alles echt geweldig!”. Op dat moment weet je dat het harde werk de moeite waard was.

Working as a student for MareVisie

In the last few years, the collaborative partnership between SRC Thor and MareVisie has become increasingly effective, enterprising and expeditious. The exchange of knowledge between the two organizations and the continuity of this dialogue has allowed from each party to benefit from each other’s capacities and passions. Several new projects are on the horizon and exist as further opportunities to develop this special relationship. One of the newest working-students is Lotte Schunselaar, who will be working on an ambitious long-term project with the European Patent Office (EPO).

How long have you been working for MareVisie and what are your experiences so far?

I have been working with MareVisie for a couple of months and my experiences have been great. It’s a company with 12 employees and from the moment you start you are treated as one of the team instead of “the new guy”. Everyone who works there has followed a technical study, most of them at the TU Delft, and they understand that your studies are a priority. The connection between SRC Thor and MareVisie is distinct and special, as quite a few employees are (former) Thor members.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently contributing to two projects. The first is probably the most interesting for Thor members, as I’m working on a bidding process to supply a CAD service to the EPO (European Patent Office). To date, we’ve made it past the first round, and are currently finalizing our presentations for the second and final round of the process. If we win the bidding process, we can set up a team of Thor members who work at the EPO premises as CAD technicians for the coming three years.

Next to that I’m currently helping Ralph van Houdt with his projects at Capgemini. I mainly take care of information processing and I join meetings and workshops at a senior management level. So far, this has been very educational and has given me very practical insights into the world of business.

Why should Thor students work for MareVisie?

For me the main reason to work at MareVisie is they can give you work while your studying that enriches your CV. Off course there is also a financial incentive, but it’s great that you can already build up your relevant working experience while still studying.

How do you think Thor and MareVisie can benefit more from each other?

At the start of this rugby season and school year, the board was invited by MareVisie for a policy session. This proved to be very useful. I think MareVisie can be of help for more than just the board, as they can also help committees that want to manage and execute their tasks better or pursue more ambitious projects. This would benefit all Thor members! Another idea is to host workshops for Thor members that are undertaking an ambitious project or are starting their thesis; such workshops would help to identify, plan and realize realistic goals.

SRC Thor joined the VeRa

SRC Thor joined the VeRa

Dear members,

With pride we announce that SRC Thor has become a member of the Delft Association Council (Verenigingsraad Delft)! After a number of introductions and meetings, SRC Thor was accepted by vote into the VeRa on Thursday the 18th of January and the VeRa became acquainted with our club house on the 25th of the January.

The VeRa is the linking organization of student associations and is mainly concerned with creating and maintaining contacts between the member associations and external parties. The VeRa represents its affiliated associations and their members vis-à-vis TU Delft, the municipality of Delft and the National Chamber of Associations (LKvV).

With this connection, we will get more insight in what is happening within the TU Delft, Student associations within and out of our city, and Delft itself to help our beloved club.
